I am a self taught film photographer, having learned exclusively on film when I began with photography in 2020. I shoot film because I find fulfillment in the mind-body connection which tactile, manual photography demands. I find myself deeply immersed in the momentary processes of creating an image this way, from preparation and shooting to developing silver gelatin prints in a darkroom.
Film is unpredictable, imperfect, and distinct. Embracing these elements through photography has taught me how to embrace them in my life as well. Film photography aids me in being a humble human, mistake ridden and in awe in pursuit of creative authorship.
I am grateful to the many humans who have shared their photographic knowledge and skillset with me, whether face to face or via the wild web. I am grateful also to people who source original camera manuals and scan them into pdfs, and to the trustworthy film lab techs who have developed and scanned my many mistakes, and have only ever been encouraging.
I grew up in an alpine valley in the Northwest corner of Montana. I feel blessed that my formative time with mother nature was amongst rich evergreens, glacial lakes, and alpenglow. I try to capture nature as subject rather than setting, and I hope that my images convey a bit of the familiar magic that I feel when I spend time outdoors. I love to create images of our bodies, especially outside, to explore how it feels to be a creature in our spinning, green world.
I am interested in making images for a wide range of purposes, from personal to commercial and in-between. I am eager to work on heart-felt projects which value respect for each other and for the earth. If you feel drawn to working together, please send me an email to get me up to speed on your vision! I specialize in natural light settings and in projects which have meaning. I am located in Montana, but would be delighted to travel.
